Sara Ayman Metwalli

Research Associate
Research Interests:
Quantum Computing,
Quantum Algorithms,
Quantum Applications,
Quantum Software
Sara was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Illinois, Chicago, for one year, where she investigated quantum computing with a focus on quantum software reliability, education, and networking. Her research aims to improve the testing and debugging of quantum circuits on near-term devices and advance methodologies that contribute to scalable, fault-tolerant quantum systems. She earned her Ph.D. in Quantum Computing from Keio University in Japan, where she developed a framework for identifying and analyzing bugs in quantum programs. Before joining QSL, Sara held research and outreach positions at IBM Research–Tokyo and Argonne National Laboratory, where she contributed to quantum error mitigation, educational content development, and STEM outreach. Passionate about quantum education, she has mentored students of all levels and written widely for public science platforms such as Towards Data Science and SheCanCode.
