Newly patented technology strengthens trust and security in quantum communications
We are proud to announce that QSL's new patent for self-authenticated quantum key exchange protocols, is now public! This innovative advancement by the researchers at QSL (Dr Mina Doosti, Dr Myrto Arapinis, and Prof. Elham Kashefi) and the former members of the team (Dr Kaushik Chakraborty and Dr Yao Ma) enhances quantum cryptography by integrating authentication directly into the quantum key exchange process, opening new pathway to address the shortcomings of quantum key-exchange protocols.
The patented protocols significantly improve key exchange rates compared to conventional quantum key distribution methods, offering a more robust and efficient cryptographic solution. This development streamlines quantum-secure communications across platforms, advancing the field of quantum cryptography.
The patent application was filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) in May 2025, marking a significant milestone in the lab's ongoing efforts to advance quantum technology towards practical solutions. Technology validation is actively underway, with the lab collaborating closely with industry partners to explore practical applications and potential commercial offerings.
