Quantum error correction, Code surgery, Homology & Category theory, Fault tolerance, Quantum computing

Fascinated by the algebraic structures within quantum codes, Clement's current focus is on understanding how deforming or stitching these structures can enable fault-tolerant computations. This process is known as code surgery, with lattice surgery being a well-known proof of concept. Through the lens of homology and category theory, Clement aims to precisely describe the operations performed on encoded data given a code surgery protocol. In the long term, Clement aims to develop fault-tolerant computing methods that both use code surgery and transversal gates. Paired with hardware improvements, Clement believes these techniques will lead to working quantum computers
